Teriberka

It is a small settlement with only 900 residents on the Edge of the Earth. Feel the contrast between the biggest city beyond the Polar Circle Murmansk and the small settlement Teriberka which is 120 km from it. Only 2 hours flight from Moscow and you can enjoy the fabulous Russian Arktik.

Here, beyond the 68th parallel, the Nature presents the beauty of 4 seasons, but also shows such unique periods as Polar day and Polar night.

The Polar day at the Murmansk latitude starts in the middle of May and lasts at least 40 days.

During this period Sun doesn’t come down and it is possible to take sunbathe, walkes, enjoy the books without electric lights and, of course, travelling.

The Polar day is the most popular time for having trip to Teriberka. This settlement was found in the 16th century on the shore of the Ocean.

In our days Teriberka became very famous between russian citizens because of the movie “Leviafan”. This film was made on the picturesque shore of that place. But the foreign tourists have a long time interest to that area. The unique possibility to pass through the different nature landscapes during the trip from Murmansk to Teriberka. There is a wonderful chance to make a fabulous picture of mixed forests which are transferring into the endless Tundra. Also this trip gives the possibility to stop by the Seid – Spiritual places of the native people of the North.

There are two natural beaches in the Teriberka region. One is the ocean sand beach and another is full of round boulders which historically got the name “Dragon Eggs”.

Also the North Waterfall and the mystical atmosphere of the Ship Cemetery catches the attention of the tourists.

There are several restaurants where you can try fresh sea delicates. We’ll be glad to recommend you one of the best  in which you can try sea urchin, scallops, modiolus and the North fish.

Those who has their trip in August or September can enjoy the Aurora.

Such facts as the long distance from civilization and strong wind, which blows away low clouds, attracts the “Aurora hunters” to Teriberka road. And forecasts for geomagnetic activity can be even higher in August and September then in winter. That gives a great opportunity for the tourist to catch Northen lights on the camera.

Kola region presents a great variety of activities. According to the season you can try ATVs, learn the life style of native people and even get involved in some native cultural rituals. It is a rare chance to have a degustation of native specialties, such as venison. More of it, during the sea fishing it is a great chance to catch codfish for your dinner and to see the Whale.

What is the Aurora Borealis or North Aurora?

There are a lot of legends about that nature miracle, but also scientific explanation of that phenomena:

The incredible light show caused by collisions between electrically charged particles released from the sun enters the polar part of ionosphere and collide with gases in the atmosphere such as oxygen and nitrogen.

So Aurora Hunters should always remember about 3 factors of success:

  1. Distance from the cities. Need to be far enough to exclude the town illumination.
  2. High geomagnetic activity so the collision of the charged particles was more intense.
  3. Clear sky
